FAQs
Do I need a car to stay at the Estate?
While a car is not necessary it is recommended if you would like to explore Umbria on your own terms. If you are coming from cities like Florence or Rome and do not want to rent a car, pickup from local train stations can be booked through Vero. The best stations to arrive at are Perugia and Cortona. If you are arriving by airplane, pickup can also be arranged at the airports in Perugia, Florence, and Rome. Booking a driver during your stay is entirely possible and is something Vero can assist you with ahead of your arrival. Alternatively, book a Full Day Vero Food & Wine or Shopping Tour, which includes a full day of transportation, then spend the rest of your stay poolside with local produce delivered to your door.
Are there restaurants and wineries nearby?
The area surrounding Monte Vibiano Vecchio and our Countryside Estate is dotted with little-known restaurants and wineries making honest produce from these rich Umbrian soils. The closest restaurant is in the neighbouring medieval town of Compignano and is run by two innovative women making some noise in the food industry. They purchase, cook, and serve only local ingredients and their wine list supports wineries within a 10-15km radius including: Cantina Bettalunga, Cantina La Spina, Cantina Lumiluna, and Cantina Cenci - all wineries that we partner with and support closely. If city dining is more your style - our recommendations surrounding the greater Perugia and Lake Trasimeno area are endless and cover a wide array of options all within 15-45 minutes from the property.
Is there a place to dine onsite?
While there is not a restaurant on site, Vero does offer dining options without you ever having to leave the property. Poggio Belvedere | by Vero partners with local farmers, grocers, bakers, and butchers, making seasonal produce accessible to all of our guests. Upon arrival, you will find an Information Guide filled with recommendations and add-ons, including groceries delivered. Depending on what is in season, a variety of foods (prepared or raw) can be easily ordered and delivered to your door including regional wines hand selected by our in-house Sommelier. All of the rental options on site are equipped with the necessary cooking and dining necessities, but if you prefer to indulge during your stay, Vero’s team can book you a private chef who will prepare a variety of foods at your request.
What should we see when we are there?
Our carefully constructed Information Guide, which can be found upon check-in, is filled with recommendations that will have you contemplating extending your stay. Our top tips on what to do and see include: day trips to Todi, Assisi, Montefalco/Bevagna, Orvieto, and Perugia. Of course, time spent in Umbria would not be complete without a few winery visits and hidden gem towns like Trevi, Panicale and Rasiglia. If you’re in the mood to shop, Umbria’s Cashmere Valley is our insider pick for all styles, prices, and preferences, or head to Deruta, home to some of the most historical ceramic production in Italy. Where is the closest town with services?
The closest town to our Estate is Mercatello, just a 5 minute drive down the road. There, you will find an eclectic bar owned by local Paola who greets you as only the Umbrians do: with local cheeses, meats, aperitivi, and coffee. Drive another 4 minutes down the picturesque valley roads to the darling town of Spina, where you will find all the essentials: Pharmacy, ATM, Coffee Shop, Bar, Grocery Store, and our preferred local Butcher: La Carneria. If you are looking for more options including Boutique and Artisan shopping, then Perugia’s city centre is just 25 minutes from our Estate. Is it possible to just stay and relax at the property all day long during our stay?
Absolutely, yes! The mesmerising landscape and tranquil setting of Poggio Belvedere | by Vero makes it hard to ever want to leave the Estate. Days can easily be spent poolside, taking in the lands that surround the property. If you want to stretch your legs, take a stroll up to Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio or walk the surrounding vineyards, olive groves, and dirt roads. Get local produce and beverages delivered or book an in-home Food & Wine Pairing led by resident Sommelier, Kaila Terraneo. Private yoga and massage can also be booked in advance.
